Friends of Mahicantuck Urge Troy City Council to Change Meeting Rules
A resolution to approve the rezoning of 1011 2nd Ave in Lansingburgh would move to the regular Troy City Council meeting on Thursday if it passes the Finance Committee Meeting. A developer seeks to change the parcel’s zoning from R1 (single family residence) to Planning Zone to allow multi-story apartments to be built on the site. The site is about 10 acres and holds Troy’s last riverfront forest; it is of cultural significance to the Mohican Nation.
Troy City Council rules don’t allow comments from individuals who live outside of Troy, which prevents Indigenous people outside of Troy from speaking at the meeting, even though the land is of cultural significance.
