NAACP’s Renée Powell on Participating in Troy’s Police Reform & Reinvention Collaborative

In June 2020 Governor Andrew Cuomo issued Executive Order 203 – where all municipalities were required to talk about policing and make suggestions for change by April 2021. Troy New York formed their review board in February and met publicly for the month. According to Troyny.gov the objective of the City of Troy’s Police Reform & Reinvention Collaborative is to develop community consensus on policing strategies and practices to promote public safety, improve community engagement and foster trust for all members of the Troy community. WOOC producer Elizabeth Press spoke to Renée Powell, the president of the NAACP Troy branch about her experience as a participating member of the collaborative.
