Pinkster, a Historic African-American Celebration, Returns

Did you know that Dutch colonies had an annual spring event that allowed enslaved people to gather in large groups with free Blacks? The historic “Pinkster” tradition will be celebrated in Albany on June 4th at Schuyler Mansion, with an online workshop on Wed 5/25 that will explore the tradition’s background and importance. Find out more as Cordell Reaves of the New York State office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation talks with Hudson Mohawk Magazine producer Brea Barthel. Also hear about the office’s work on telling “Our Whole History.” For details, visit www.eventbrite.com/e/understanding-pinkster-tickets-344129730287 (5/25 online session), and www.friendsofschuylermansion.org/pinkster (6/4 event).
