Juneteenth and Trauma: Troy Screening of Sunshine Circle
Juneteenth is a time of community celebration whose origins lie in historical atrocities that have burdened African Americans over generations with a legacy of trauma. Sunshine Circle, a 2021 feature film, explores childhood trauma and adult healing, through writer and producer Marcia Reeves’s own story. On Saturday, June 18, 10:00 am-2:00 pm, Hudson Valley Community College in Troy hosts a screening of the film, followed by lunch and then a discussion between Reeves and HVCC Psychology Professor Dr. Sonja Ann Miller. In this segment HMM producer Cathy Silber talks with Marcia Reeves and Penny Holmes, Director of Troy’s Ark, Inc., who arranged the screening especially for Juneteenth.
This event is hosted by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Hudson Valley Community College and co-sponsored in partnership with The Ark, Inc. and CEO of Troy.
