RIP David Buckel

Over this past weekend, the New York City environmental community, was shaken by the death of a loving leader in urban composting and farming, David Buckel. Buckel was an inspiration to many in the community composting movement, including myself; he designed and managed the Red Hook Community Farm, the largest compost project to run entirely on renewable resources, and was widely recognized for his dedication and virtuosity as a composter. Mr. Buckel was also a groundbreaking attorney who fought for LGBTQI rights, most famously prosecuting the sheriff in the case of Brandon Teena, a transgender man who was killed in Nebraska in 1993. Kim Tateo, an artist and environmentalist from Troy, sat down with WOOC correspondent Meghan Marohn to discuss her work with David Buckel and the legacy of his life.
