Update On Good Food NY Bill
With just hours left in the state legislative session, food advocates were making a last minute push for the Good Food NY Bill. The bill has already passed the Senate and appears to be now scheduled to be voted upon by the Assembly. Rather than being restricted to the cheapest bidder, the Good Food NY bill lifts barriers for local municipalities to secure contracts with food companies that reflect community values: environmental sustainability, building local economies, animal welfare, racial equity, community health and nutrition, and fair labor practices.
