Giffen Elementary In Albany Sees High Environmental Stressors

Kaylee Stewart of the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences has done a study of environmental stressors near local elementary schools in Albany such as proximity to fighting, loitering, homeless shelters, and liquor stores. While such factors are often more prevalent in low-income and communities of color, it is especially high near Giffen Elementary School in the South End of Albany. This includes its nearness to the Capital City Rescue Mission, which is seeking to expand. Such stressors can negatively impact upon a child’s learning capacity. Ms. Stewart talks to Mark Dunlea of Hudson Mohawk Magazine.
