Special Episode: Weather

This special episode of Hudson Mohawk Magazine focuses on weather and climate, featuring retired National Weather Service meteorologist Hugh Johnson. It starts with Hugh’s forecast for Thanksgiving weekend to help those who are traveling, plus his predictions for the winter ahead. (Hint: be sure to have some warm clothing for December!). We then hear excerpts from archival segments about the lake effect storm near Thanksgiving 2022 that dumped over 6.5 feet of snow in Buffalo; a February 2023 piece on the effects of “climate weirding” that contribute to extreme changes in temperature and precipitation; and Hugh’s comments on climate change following this year’s election. It ends with Hugh’s 2023 overview of the history of the field of meteorology, including notes on how indigenous people observed the weather to predict the patterns. Produced by Brea Barthel for Hudson Mohawk Magazine. Happy Thanksgiving!
