Be The Media! Workshop with Mama Charlotte Hill O’Neal: Hip Hop to Heal the Community
March 21, 2014 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm EDT
Hip Hop and tradition equals positive community vibes! Teens, we want to hear your voice! A hands-on production session to create a short spoken-word piece about hot button issues such as gun and police violence, focusing on positive strategies for moving forward. Join teens from Troy and the surrounding Capital Region, in a poetry and hip hop workshop with Mama C! Youth will write lyrics to the beat, shape a hip hop piece to “Hip Hop to Heal the Community,” rehearse it on the Sanctuary stage, and then perform live later that evening! In collaboration with Youth Media Sanctuary, Troy, Youth FX, Albany, UAACC Peace Power Productions Studio (Tanzania) and Missing Link, Dyer Phelts AME Zion Churches. There will be a community potluck after the workshop, which will then be followed Mama Charlotte’s presentation of poetry and film.
We are committed to lowering the barriers to access for events at The Sanctuary for Independent Media. For people who are hard of hearing or deaf, blind or low-vision, or whose physical limitations can interfere with a satisfying experience, let us know two weeks in advance so we can make appropriate arrangements.
