Be The Media! Workshop With Misha Rabinovich: What Is Free and Open Source Software?
March 25, 2007 @ 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm EDT
One of the most exciting trends in media today is the open source software revolution. Developers around the world are collaborating to fight the plague of bloated, buggy and overpriced corporate software to come up with free alternatives. In this four hour workshop, the history, politics, and practical applications of open source software and free software will be discussed, de-mystified and looked at up close. Topics will include: what is open source, what kinds of open source licenses are circulating and how they differ, how open source software affects the commercial software world, and what this means for businesses and individuals using open source software. A variety of open source software applications will be demonstrated that are practical for media makers as well as everyday use.
Misha Rabinovich graduated from RPI with a B.S. in Electronic Arts in 2004.
