Press Release

From competitive mountain biking, to urban “alleycat” racing, to daily commuting, bike polo, and Critical Mass, the program includes videos from a variety of makers, and spans genres from documentary to narrative to animation to sports films to art and music videos.

Some of the featured films and videos include:

Shooting Stars by Jeff Udell
A snapshot of the high-energy lives of female downhill bike racers as they competed on the 2004 North American race circuit. The 2003 and 2004 US National Champion, Marla Streb, narrates this short film.

Ski Boys by Benny Zenga
The lost reels of the Cow Town Ski Boys, which document their inventive exploits during the early 70’s. For the first time ever, this film reveals the footage of these “folk stunt” artists to the public, despite the implications of rewriting history and blowing your mind.

DIY Emancipation 101 by Lynn Robinson
An animated short about bicycles and women’s liberation.

B.C. Clettes vs. SexyBack by B.C. Clettes
Helmets are in and the B:C:Clettes, make them sexier than ever!

Millar’s Tale by Nigel Dick
David Millar, one time prologue winner of the Tour de France, talks about his fight against doping and his future with Slipstream Sports.

The Pies of March by Pete Shapiro
The Time’s Up! Bicycle Clown Brigade went out once again to liberate the new bike lanes throughout downtown Manhattan…. this time armed with pies!

The idea for a bicycle film night was inspired by the recent success of ongoing festivals like Filmed By Bike, in Portland OR and the Bicycle Film Festival, which has grown from an annual show in NYC to a global event in over 17 cities around the world.  By showcasing art about bicycles, the organizers hope to promote bicycling as a form of environmentally friendly transportation, build the local cycling community, and simply get people excited about getting out and riding.
