Rutgers University Students on Storytelling
Why is it important to reflect on your experiences in life? A group of students from Rutgers University have been addressing this question in a multidisciplinary scrapbook project being lead by a documentary artist and journalist named Jonna McKone. McKone traveled with these New Jersey college students to The Sanctuary for Independent Media to meet up and study zine-making with digital folk artist Brenda Ann Kenneally, Guggenheim fellow and creator of the Troy People’s History Museum. WOOC correspondent Meghan Marohn sat down with their Rutgers program coordinator Adam Staats, students Mariah Peirce and Anthony Tullio and Jonna to hear why it is so important for students from challenging circumstances to courageously and creatively tell the stories of their lives.
