Forum Examines the Death of Dr. Susan Moore and Systemic Racism in Medicine Extended Version
The New York Metro Chapter of Physicians for a National Health Program held a virtual forum in January on systemic racism in medicine titled “Unequal Treatment: The Unjust Death of Dr. Susan Moore.” Dr. Susan Moore, a 52-year old Black physician, died on December 20, 2020 in Indiana after recording a video for social media from her hospital bed about receiving racist treatment at the hands of healthcare providers. HMM correspondent Corinne Carey spoke with Dr. MaryLouise Patterson, one of the forum’s organizers, about the forum, and the work of her group. This is part one in a multi-part series about this event and the work to combat medical racism.
