New York State Has Yet to Acknowledge Long-term Effects of Indigenous Boarding School

New York State has still not acknowledged the social, psychological, and emotional toll, or the long-term effects of boarding schools for Indigenous children. The Thomas Indian School was one of those schools in Buffalo, NY. HMM’s Sina Basila Hickey spoke with Professor Keith Burich, author of “The Thomas Indian School and the ‘Irredeemable’ Children of New York,” to understand why this school existed.
