Farm Bill: Anti-hunger Measures
The Farm Bill is a comprehensive package of legislation passed once every five years that has a direct impact on agriculture, food systems, and consumers. It is the single largest piece of legislation that Congress deals with. The Farm Bill covers programs ranging from crop insurance for farmers, subsidies for commodities, and conservation measures, as well as healthy food access for low-income families. It is where the funding for SNAP, formerly known as food stamps, comes from. Mark Dunlea was joined today by Emily Ledyard of Feeding New York State, which represents that state’s ten food banks, to talk about anti-hunger measures in the bill.
