NYPA Hearing Albany On Building Public Renewables
The New York Power Authority (NYPA) is holding hearings for the public to comment on its recently released draft plan to implement the Build Public Renewables Act (BPRA). That law directs them to build publicly owned renewables if the private section is not building enough solar, wind and other renewable sources to meet the goals of the state’s climate law, which includes getting 70% of the state’s electricity from renewables by 2030. The State has recently said it will not meet the deadline. We hear from Vennela Yadhati of NYPA explaining the hearing process, and from speakers who supported more nuclear (Keith Schue), who complained about the state’s siting process for renewables (Steve Helman), and who urged the state to move faster with public renewables (Debra Dewey).
