Troy Library Kids Books for July
Hear about four books for young people who may be interested in nocturnal animals, poetry, spies, or Welsh mythology. Carol Roberts, head of Young People’s Services at Troy Public Library, shares her picks of the month. “After Dark: Poems About Nocturnal Animals” (Harrison, ill. Laberis, 2020) combines information about all sorts of night creatures with dramatic illustrations that Carol thinks might be especially fun to read on a camping trip. “The Fire, the Water, and Maudie McGinn” (Pla, 2023) is a novel about a young autistic girl needing to keep a dark secret during wildfires in California (Pla, 2023). “Spying on Spies: How Elizebeth Smith Friedman Broke the Nazis’ Secret Code” (Moss, 2024) tells the true story of a code-breaker and includes encrypted messages to work out. “Hedgewitch of Fox Hall” (Bright, 2024) weaves bits of Welsh mythology in a novel that has romance, adventure, and more in 7th century Wales.
